Puppy Potty Training Tips | The Dog Guide
The first thing you need to train your puppy is potty training
If you want the puppy to be raised inside the
house
potty training your puppy is essential to your family’s
wellbeing.
Potty training can start as soon as the puppy is taken away from
the mother and arrives in its new home.
When your puppy is moving curiously around investigating his new
surroundings, the puppy will relieve himself instantly when he feels the
need and without noticing he will continue. If you don’t want to find
his deposits all around the house, you will need to
potty train your puppy.

train your puppy
It is best to potty train your puppy outside. When you
potty train your
puppy you should always take him to the same place outside. Your
puppy needs to associate this particular spot with going potty. When you
are taking your
puppy outside to potty train him he should not associate
any other activities with this. That means that you should limit the
time outside to about 10 minutes, it is not a long outside stay and
don’t play with him. You go out, seek the place you have chosen for the
potty training and when your puppy has finished immediately
return inside.
A dog crate for your puppy can be necessary as you have other things to
do in the house and cannot be around your
puppy and oversee the potty training all the time. Dogs
and also the puppy likes to keep his place clean and your puppy won’t
want to do the potty in the crate. Remember only to leave your puppy in
the crate for a short time and take him out often to go
potty training.
You can also keep an eye on your puppy by securing his leash to your
waist, allowing you to move around the house and still noticing every
sign that the puppy needs to go potty.

As a part of the potty training you should praise your puppy
when he relieves himself outside and sometimes you can give your puppy a
treat. This will learn your puppy to be aware of what you expect him to
do. When the puppy sometimes relieves himself inside your house, don’t
scold him. This will have no positive effect at all and will only damage
the relationship between you and your puppy. Positive reinforcement has
to be the basis of all your dog / puppy training.
Potty training your puppy will take a lot of time and
effort but a successful potty training is essential for the future
relationship with your puppy. The best time to take your
puppy out potty training will be when he wakes up, after
your puppy has eaten, after he has been drinking and right after you
have been playing with your puppy.
Puppy potty training is essential for indoor puppies. But also
puppies that will mostly be outdoor dogs needs a thorough potty
training. And remember that this early training of your puppy is not
only about potty training but is also about establishing a positive
relationship and that the puppy in an early stage learns to accept your
authority and learns that following your command is followed by positive
interaction with you. A basis for future success when training your
puppy / dog is established.
